Help - Can't see subtitles

Postby giorx » 21 Jan 2012 21:28

Hello everyone,
I can't see subtitles with VLC. I tried a few different avi files with different .srt subtitles, but I never managed to see subtitles on the screen.
The OSD function is enabled, I tried both to rename the srt file with the same name as the video, both to add the subtitles later (both by dragging the sub file onto the video, both adding the file fom the "video" menu".

I don't get any error, the video keeps playing, but I can't see any subtitles.

Apart from this, VLC works god, never got any problem, but I'd like to play subtitles too.

What can I do to solve this?

p.s. I'm not sure it is strictly related to Windows, but I noticed that even Windows Media Player can't show subtitles, so maybe it's a problem of my OS (windows 7 professional)?

thanks

Do they appear in video->subtitle track and are they enabled.

Can you share the whole logs:
tools->messages set verbosity to 2 and start playback

I had the same problem, but I could solve it quickly by changing the settings as suggested by TypX. Now I have a related problem: I can see the subtitles, but when I record a movie with vlc, the recorded file loses the subtitles. It seems that the subtitles don't get recorded. Any hint?
