Capture audio only

Postby vale4674 » 10 Jan 2012 12:10

Is it possible to capture only audio with VLC? I can capture video (/dev/video0) + audio (alsa://hw:0,0) and I can capture video only. But I can't capture only audio.

EDIT:

What I need is an audio from mic, not from some file.

Yes it is. There is even a dedicated category as playlist / Devices / Audio.

Can you please tell me how to do it because I don't see anything like "playlist / Devices / Audio"?

VLC 1.1.12

You think something like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AP0w5xBUTko on Windows, but this was the older version of VLC, In this newest that option does not exists.

That option is present in all versions since 1.1.0.

How come it is not visible on windows nor on linux?

And would I be able to do that through libvlc? I am using it with vlcj.

I am definitely seeing it in Linux. Go to View / Playlist. The left-hand panel is titled "Media Browser". Click on "Devices" to open the dropdown list. On my machine, the second item is "Audio capture".

Yeah :D thank you. Now I'll have to figure it out how to use it through libvlc but that is not in scope of this forum. Thank you!

You can't have snapshots if you don't capture video.
