Hi,
First of all I would like to congratulate all concerned with the VideoLan project. It's simply fantastic!
Perhaps I can help by making some suggestions from the point of view of a DVD watcher....
(I'm using it mostly on windows boxes both xp and w7.)
1) A way to save settings like de-interlace mode. I have to set this manually every time I use it. Going into preferences and selecting SAVE has no effect.
2) Commonly used features on the console:-
* Turn subtitles on/off (once loaded). To do this at present requires quite a lot of mouse clicks which becomes very distracting when you just want to check a line or two...
* DVD player style rewind and fast-forward buttons. This is quite a tricky operation using the slider, you often end up up loosing your place completely. If you don't catch a mumbled line, first you have to tangle with the slider to go back a few seconds, then perform a lot of clicks to turn subtitles on, re-play the line, then perform a lot of clicks to turn subtitles off again.
* A clock showing real time. At present you have to minimise VLC to see the windows clock.
3) Larger fonts on the console. VLC is often viewed from a distance and the console fonts are just too small.
I hope this input is useful. With more and more people now watching videos on their computers a player with most of the features found on a $20 DVD player would be good.
Also, a feature found on slightly more expensive DVD players is remembering the position in a prematurely stopped program, ie - the program starts where you stopped it (like a video tape).
Thanks again.
