VLC won't play my blu rays

Postby desertmonk » 31 Dec 2011 21:53

I'm hoping someone can help me out. I am not extremely computer literate. I know just enough to get myself in trouble.

I try to play my blu ray discs from the drive and the error

"Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'dvd://D:\'. Check the log for details"

I am using VLC media player 1.1.11 with Windows 7. Here is the log I received

VLC 1.1.x doesn't play Blu-ray movies from discs.

VLC 1.2.x will do that.

Nice, thanks. I didn't see a 1.2 version when downloading. Is there a beta page? Thanks again

Thanks, installed latest branch. Get this now

Blu-Ray error:
This Blu-Ray Disc needs a library for AACS decoding, and your system does not have it.

Thanks again. Sorry to be a bother. I really want to use this player. It would be nice to have something that pretty much plays anything I have on my pc. Tired of having multiple programs to play different extension.

Thanks funman. I appreciate it. I followed the directions and got a new error. I found the appdata folder when I showed hidden folders C:/users/username/appdata. There were only 3 folders here (Local, LocalLow, and Roaming) I didn't have an %APPDATA% within it, or an aacs folder. So I created an aacs folder and put the file inside of it. I was able to put the dll file in my VLC folder no problems. Here is the error

Type %appdata% to Windows Explorer or to Start -> run, it will lead to right place.

One last attempt at this to get it to work. Anyone able to help? I followed the guidelines above but didnt have the %APPDATA% folder. Even looked in the directory and it wasnt there. So not sure what to do next. I created a folder and labeled it that hoping it would work, but nada. Thanks

%appdata% is a windows system directory... You have it, else windows does not work.

I've registered here to say that I've followed the instructions provided and I'm also receiving the exact same error message. I have verified that KEYDB.CFG is in the %appdata% folder and that libaacs.dll is in C:\Program Files (x86)\VideoLAN\VLC.

I have verified that KEYDB.CFG is in the %appdata% folder
It has to be in %appdata%\aacs folder.

Ok I made an AACS folder inside of the appdata folder C:\Users\Username\AppData\aacs and put the key file inside of it. I put the lib file inside of the VLC folder C:\Program Files (x86)\VideoLan\ VLC But I am still getting the error

Your system AACS decoding library does not work. Missing keys?
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'bluray:///D:\'. Check the log for details.

Not sure why it would say missing keys if I put it in the right directory. Here is the log I copied

Ah K. Thanks. That fixes the issue of playback.

I am getting a similar error:

I am getting a similar error:
Blu-Ray error:
Your system AACS decoding library does not work. Missing keys?
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'bluray:///E:\'. Check the log for details.

I have placed the KEYDB.cfg file in my %appdata%\aacs folder. I know it is being read because I tried to delete it while VLC was open just after attempting to open multiple Blu-rays, and I got a "The action can't be completed because the file is open in VLC media player 1.3.0-git..." message

Any thoughts?

Well, maybe you have a new Blu-Ray that revoked the certificate. You need to do command lines to understand better the issue here.

Okay, I turned on the debugging logger (couldn't find the log file anyhwere)
[009e5220] logger interface: using logger.
libaacs/mmc.c:544: Host key / Certificate has been revoked by your drive ? (02f7
c308)
libaacs/mmc.c:614: Unable to read VID from drive! (02f7c308)

HDMV Titles: 3, BD-J Titles: 78, Other: 78
[02f546a0] main input error: open of `bluray:///E:\' failed
What does it mean by "Host key / Certificate has been revoked by your drive"? Is this something I can overcome?

You are f**ked-up, in the same way as I am. We need to find a newer certificate. Come on IRC.

Hello men. Yes, we are all f**ked up. The whoknowsmyname fix on the previous page doesn't work on some of these.

I just watched the new John Lennon biopic Nowhere Boy in Blu-ray with VLC Media Player by removing the AACS copyright protection with AnyDVD HD 6.8.9 beforehand. Perhaps this will suggest a more permanent fix to someone who is much smarter than me.

Has anyone figured this out? I downloaded 2.0rc1 and followed the AACS steps but none of the Blu-rays I try work.

This is possible if the certificate are revoked
