Support for 10bit depth h264

Postby Zeek0 » 24 Aug 2011 16:11

Recently FFMPEG have updated their h264 codec to allow 10bit depth h264 to be played back when using the x264 10 bit encoder.
MPC-HC plays the 10bit depth MKV ok but with VLC v1.1.11 all I see is a green screen.
----
There might be a problem with the 10bit depth mode as the colours didn't look correct - red looks a bit pink. I'm not sure if the problem is with x264 10bit encoder or with the FFMPEG 10bit decoder. If you do build 10bit support into VLC just do a couple of test encodes (with x264 10bit depth encoder) and check the colour when playing back with your future 10bit h264 enabled VLC.

Jean-Baptiste Kempf, the current version is 1.1.12, not 1.2.0. That version has not been reached. 10 bit depth x264 is not supported in the current version. A green screen is shown instead.

Sorry for the question, but there are several links that are present to be downloaded.
But which would be recommended to be downloaded?
What would be the differences?
Since they are different in size and also there are debug..

The latest nightly build at 1.3.0 is able to play the 10 bit depth h264 encoded video files, but this isn't obvious to the average user. I can imagine the user installing lots of clumsy codec packs to solve the problem. Whatever fixed the issue needs to be merged with the build in the front page as soon as possible.

Thank you, we never thought about that...
