How can I make windows 7 open DVD videos in VLC by default?

Postby Paul_Bags » 10 Nov 2011 04:19

Hi, I'd like dvds to open in vlc by default, instead of "windows media player". Can't find any options in windows that affect drive association (only file association, and none of those are a dvd 'file' class), can't find any options in VLC to make it happen. Can't find any solutions (or even much info) searching google, the various vlc support areas (faq, wiki, forum, etc) and I'm starting to wonder if it's even possible? I'll edit the registry if I have to, just point me to the right key.

I'm a little perplexed as the why this isn't already handled by VLC, it's installer, or at least covered in the faq/wiki/documentation/etc.

Paul,
Exasperated.

There are AutoplayHandlers for DVD included in VLC installer. I haven't tested them with Windows 7, but once you insert DVD into drive, the Windows should ask which program you want to use.
