Consider such scenario:
1. I try to register
2. I enter all data, among others -- email address X
3. The system states, the username is already in use
4. I change the username
5. Now the response is, email X is already in use
It is a bug, it cannot be in use since I am not registered yet. I am forced to use another email account.
