External audio track?

Postby LaMorte » 12 Jun 2011 22:53

VLC is my favorite player (including the GUI  ), but I miss the possibility to load an external audio track (like subtitles). There is a possibility that this function will be added? I hope so because I have no intention of changing player.
THANK YOU!!

It is already there but a bit complicated like almost everything in VLC.
To open one media with some additional media track:
Media > Advanced Open File... > File: Add... > Show more options > Play another media synchronously > Browse... > Add... > Select > Play
Then:
Audio > Audio Track

:D this make me happy but...seems it does'n works :( : When i click "Browse" VLC open another window "advanced open file" and another....and another when i reclick "browse"; i can't choose the addictional file.

The firts time i have done it I can choose audio file. Only the first time.
I have to open the video track normally or from "advanced open file" window?
Thanks.

It should work. What is your new file type?

Choose your video file first
> File: Add...
and add additional audio file to it
> Browse...
which opens confusing the same window (itself). Here just
> File: Add...
to choose your audio file and confirm it by
> Select
button. Do not press Browse button in the second window!
Now you should have both paths to your video and audio files in one window (the first one). Now press
> Play
button to play video with external audio track. During playback you can choose your second audio track
Audio > Audio Track

Hi,
is there a way, while adding an external audio source, to mute, i.e. to exclude, the audio of the original file so to combine the video playing with the additional, external audio source only?

Thanks!

Audio menu allows one to choose the audio track, and also allows to disable track.

Thanks, it works!

One more question: is it possible to add another track to a "dynamic" input? In more concrete terms, would it be possible to Play an input Streaming (e.g. SopCast on local host) as first signal and then add another dynamic audio input (e.g. a radio streaming in my native language)? Kind of dubbing the SopCast streaming... It does not seem to be feasible using the method above.

No. All inputs must be defined at the same time.

(one could use e.g. blank TS restreams to do some tricks that allow dynamic addition, but it isn't a trivial option)

Alternatively, while playing a pure audio signal opened as Network Streaming, is it possible to delay it some 20-30 seconds? I have only found, under Tools/Track Synchronization/Synchronization, the option to "Advance audio over video", but this option does not seem to be active or functioning, at least for values such as -15,000s or -20,000 s (i.e. 15 to 20 seconds).

Thanks

IIRC there was one issue with negative delay which is fixed in VLC 1.2.0
