Audio Goes Out Of Sync In MKV Files

Postby malarkey101 » 23 Oct 2011 05:49

Hello everyone I am new here. Sorry if this has been posted before. But what is happening is when I play either a 720p or 1080p MKV file. What i find is after about 10 minutes of play the audio just goes out of sync. It starts fine but just goes out after some time. Is there a setting that i'm not seeing somewhere?

Thanks to anyone that can help.

You can adjust sync with hotkeys (k and j) or using the dialog (Tools -> Effects & filters and sync tab).

But since release groups don't do bad releases very often, it might be bug. Does it help if you use Waveout audio output module?

I think it is a bug, as I am affected too.

On most mkv files, everything is fine at the start. But after a while, it goes out of sync. Sometimes without doing anything, sometimes after pause / resume and sometimes when changing position within the file, no matter if I do it by keyboard (e.g. alt-left) or by mouse in the slider. And sometimes the offset increases continuously.

Using the hotkeys k and j helps for a while, but only for a while. Sometimes it helps to shift audio using k and then shift it back to zero using j. Sometimes it helps to pause / resume again or select a position again.

I noticed something more, this could help finding the bug:
When pausing, video usually stops immediately, but audio sometimes continues to play for up to 2 seconds. After that, it is always out of sync.

I am using VLC 2.0.5 on Ubuntu 12.04 64bit. I also tried VLC 2.1.0 from a PPA, but no difference.

Edit:
I have just verified that I can play at least one of the affected mkv fles with Parole (another player available on Ubuntu) without any problems. But unfortunaltely, Parole can only use the analog audio output, but on my media PC, I have only SPDIF output (test was on the work PC).
Thanks and Regards,
Markus
