PC to PS3 for dummies

Postby Sqrly » 01 Jul 2011 05:12

How do I open a file on my PC with VLC and watch it on the ps3?

Please, someone, explain step by step in great detail how to do this. Assume I know nothing about formats or protocols.

I have a Lynksys WRT54GS Wireless router. DSL is plugged into the DSL port, my PC is connected via a cat-6 cable. The laptop and PS3 connect via the wireless.
OS = win7 x64 pro.
VLC media player 1.1.10

I have windows media player setup to share my music and video files on the network and that works fine to play .avi files on the ps3.

What I want to do is stream .mkv and .mp4 format video files to the PS3 but don't know how. I can't figure out how stream a .avi file either.

I know to click Media > Streaming, then how to add a file, beyond that there's a bazillion options and I'm lost.

Im in the same step.

I can see export to a file, but the file is not seen by XBOX or THE tv.. whatever? So what is the usability of export to file in the first place? (only for Pc's)??
