I just recently started encoding my Blu-ray collection onto my 17" MacBook Pro (Current Generation), however when attempting to play them back I am having some problems.
I understand that after encoding the copy will never be as good as the original, and I needed to change some FFmpeg settings to make my 1080p video skip less, most likely at the cost of quality.
However my real problem is when I try to play audio through my speakers, I have a Mini DP to HDMI converter that runs into my receiver, and from there splits to the 5.1 audio and to my TV. The picture appears to be fine but for whatever reason the audio is backwards! I recognize this because normally when I play from the disc in a player the dialoge is played through the center speaker, but when played from the computer the dialoge comes from the back, while the front speakers appear to be playing background music.
I found an option under audio settings for the device used, and I am presented with both HDMI and HDMI Enhanced or something, this option is always defaulted to HDMI but if I change it to HDMI Enhanced it works just fine. Does anyone know how I can have VLC default to using this setting whenever available? I say this because I am not always connected to my receiver, but when I am I don't want to have to change settings around every time.
Thanks
