mp4 audio track names

Postby potatis » 19 Aug 2011 21:55

For mkv's both the audio tracks names and language are displayed in the Audio track selection menu, but tagging an mp4 like this doesn't affect VLC, it just shows "Track 1 - English" etc. The only thing VLC displays are the tracks' language, can it support also to display the tracks name? For example, if there is a Director's Commentary, it would be very useful if VLC displayed "Director's Commentary - English" instead of "Track 2 - English".

Here, the standard audio track names, "Sound Track", has been substituted for other descriptions

iTunes, iPhone, iPad & Apple TV1 are supposedly taking use of this.
in iTunes it's displayed: Language (Audio track name)
so in my example it's: English (Donald Duck's narration)
and for the 2nd track: French (Director's commentary)

Also subtitles are displayed this way, so I want to extend this request
to also comprehend subtitles. - in iTunes they are displayed likewise:
for example: English (Subtitle track name)
while in VLC it's just: Track 01 - English, Track 02 - English etc
in iTunes it would be, if the first track is not tagged and the 2nd is:
English
English (Director's commentary)

This will be suported in VLC 1.2.0 (udta.name)

The hdlr.name isn't supported yet... Working on it...
