It's probably the 3 seconds timeout again, this source takes about 10 seconds to start...

[00000261] livedotcom demuxer error: no data received in 3s, aborting
[00000260] main input debug: EOF reached

but this time it's >unicast< session, so the timeout is harmfull there as well
10 seconds on a TCP stream? That's redicilious what produces that --please stay polite--?
Anyways. the timeout is created in order to do protocol rollover in the future. So first UDP, then TCP, then HTTP connection attempts.

Besides the steam says it is starting right away:

According to the RTSP protocol exchange, it appears to be DSS
http://developer.apple.com/darwin/projects/streaming/

The problem is not the TCP connection, this is opened immediately.
But the data stream starts flowing upto 10 seconds later.

With UDP it's the same.

Actually this server behaviour might be intentional - it's a MPEG4 video so the server is probably waiting for the next keyframe in order not to start transmission somewhere in the middle. But vlc-0.8.2-t3 switches after 900 msec to TCP and after 3 seconds gives up completely.

In my understanding, protocol rollover is only needed in case of broken network environment (e.g. users behind symmetric NATs and/or firewalls blocking UDP). Isn't it acceptable for those users to select TCP protocol in preferences (like it was in 0.8.1)?

In any case, introducing these timeouts and protocol rollover without possibility to configure them (and disable them) opens new problems.

No this is not acceptable. However this is an interesting problem....
I'll see if i can get a quick fix. Otherwise it will be a next version.

You need to set a font in our textrendere module that has Simplified Chinese characters.
Yes, I did so as Preferences to Video toSubtitles/OSD to Text renderer, didn't I?
And if the file isn't UTF-8, then you probably need to select a correct file encoding in the list as well (you can set this in the subtitles dialog window when you choose Open File in the File menu of VLC.
The problem is that how can I know which correct encoding the file is.
Any useful tools?
Not really. that's the whole problem of all these SRT subtitles.
I eventually know how to make out the correct encoding.Somebody told
me Word is a good choice. She is right.

Now I'd like to know how to display a "Unicode" ssa file.Just Unicode not UTF-8 or something else.Neither can I find the choice in VLC nor I can see the subtitles. How do you think about it ?Shall I upload it to you? Where please?

Or right, there is another problem. After I have checken the encoding of another ssa and I have known it is UTF-8. Then I choose UTF-8 just like what you have said, VLC didn't wok at all. My computer told me it was error. I had no time to see what had happened before VLC shut down.

If I choose System Defult, it can show something but not words but symbols actually. I nearly be crazy.

I have nearly tried all SIM-- fonts but they all failed. What should I do then? I need help, really. I love VLC but it seems not to like me.

Re: skipping trouble

Postby jacoby » 25 Jun 2005 18:45

this is a problem i have had for a long time, adn still do

while playing back mkv & ogm files i can only skip using the bad (using the mouse). The skipping keys, Alt|Ctrl|CtrlAlt + forward|backward arrow only skip to the beginning of the video)

currently using vlc 0.8.2 beta3
windows xp build 2600 np sp, dx 8.1, matrox g550 latest stable drivers

http://agrafa.ath.cx/messages.txt

what I did is this:

1. open an ogm (valid as far as virtualdubmod and ogg media utils are concerned) file
2. skip (ctrl+forward) one minute forward two times
3. stop playing the video

after step two i was 1 minute and 7 seconds into the video
I get the same thing. the hotey time jumps are one of the features I use the most in VLC. I would really love to see this fixed.

Re: Bug in rtp stream out - not working with TS mux

Postby Guest » 25 Jun 2005 20:11

rtp streamout module is broken. When trying to stream out rtp using TS mux, options
sdp=sap:// and sdp=rtsp://.... don't work.
In case of sap, no SAPs are generated.
In case of rstp, the client is not able to get proper rtsp data.
Only sdp=http://... works
Found the bugs:

1) SAP is not working, since the function SapSetup() in modules/stream_out/rtp.c incorrectly checks, if the number of ES is >0.
Obviously, when TS mux is used, there's no ES, so the following needs to be changed:
if( p_sys->i_es > 0 && p_sys->psz_sdp && *p_sys->psz_sdp )

2) RTSP is not working, since RtspCallback() calls SDPGenerate(), which only works with ES, not with TS mux - in that case SDP is generated in other part of code and not in SDPGenerate().

Could you please fix at least 1) in 0.8.2 - this is very easy.

weird subtitle issue

Postby onewhoknows » 25 Jun 2005 21:48

If I right click > open with > vlc on a video file with a subtitle track in the same folder, I don't have the option to choose a subtitle track (video > subtitles track or right-click on screen > subtitle track).

However, if I open up VLC player manually and drag-drop the file to play it, I have the subtitle track option.

Did I do something wrong?

Re: Bug in rtp stream out - not working with TS mux

Postby The DJ » 26 Jun 2005 03:21

rtp streamout module is broken. When trying to stream out rtp using TS mux, options
sdp=sap:// and sdp=rtsp://.... don't work.

Obviously, when TS mux is used, there's no ES, so the following needs to be changed:
if( p_sys->i_es > 0 && p_sys->psz_sdp && *p_sys->psz_sdp )

2) RTSP is not working, since RtspCallback() calls SDPGenerate(), which only works with ES, not with TS mux - in that case SDP is generated in other part of code and not in SDPGenerate().

Could you please fix at least 1) in 0.8.2 - this is very easy.
Sorry, too late. The testing period was over 6 weeks. The deadline was this weekend and 0.8.2 will be released with this bug.

sdp file not generation for live streaming on h264
but
can do mp4v codec

vlc.exe -vvv -I rc dshow:// :dshow-vdev="Osprey-230 Video Device 1" :dshow-adev="Osprey-230 Audio Device 1" :dshow-size="" :no-dshow-config :no-dshow-tuner --sout "#transcode:rtp" --sout-transcode-vcodec="mp4v" --sout-transcode-vb="550" --sout-transcode-scale="1" --sout-transcode-acodec="mp4a" --sout-transcode-ab="64" --sout-transcode-channels="2" --sout-rtp-dst="192.168.10.15" --sout-rtp-ttl="127" --sout-rtp-sdp="file://C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\?? ??\livech2.sdp"

why not h264 video codec
Because we don't support H264 RTP yet. (actually i don't think anyone but apple does)

Well, this bug was originally reported on Friday 11:12 am (one page back), I was just trying to find out why this is happening...
