Preview ?

Postby anw0625 » 02 Aug 2011 21:39

I have just reloaded everything on my computer and before all the movie icons had a function on it where I could play the icon to see if I had the correct movie. What do I need to do to get that again? Thanks

What version of Mac OS X are you using?

IIRC, the icon preview feature came with Mac OS X 10.6.

I am running 10.6.8
I did not know if I needed to install something else?
It does it with the videos that quicktime was the default with but not vlc.

You probably didn't re-install Perian, which expands the default Quick Look feature to additional formats.

I concur, I have Perian installed and any video format can be previewed.

No, it will render the previews after installed.

Something related:

When I set VLC as the default player for certain files (mov, avi, mkv, etc), instead of the quicktime icon (which is a preview of the video) now it is some ugly icon. Is there any way to make VLC the default player without using the ugly file icon?

You can replace the ugly file icons within VLC.app with more beautiful ones (I think there some icon sets available on the net for this), but as long as VLC is the default application for a file type its icons will be used.
