About the Tools -> Program Guide feature of VLC

Postby ovdsrn » 05 Aug 2011 16:39

Hello,

I'm using VLC 1.1.4 and I noticed in the user interface the "Tools" menu with the "Program Guide" option. Maybe it's a stupid question, but I'm not sure I understand the usage for this feature.
I suppose the program guide that the feature is about is an EPG (electronic program guide). In this case, it would be useful only when you're watching with VLC some TV streams which also contain EPG information. The online live TV streams don't usually (actually, I didn't find any) contain this EPG information. So, the only use I could think about is when you watch with VLC some TV streams "acquired" from a tuner.

Am I right? I want to check my assumptions since I don't have a tuner yet.

Thank you.

Some smart IPTV providers do carry the EPG data just like cable, satellite and terrestrial broadcasters do.
