Help test playback of Apple's HTTP Live Streaming

Postby pmh1@kmpc.net » 02 Aug 2011 20:44

I am willing to help test playback of Apple's HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) using VLC as the player as I have access to my company's product that produces Multi-bit rate HLS streams.

Currently I have tried a number of VLC nightly builds on the windows platform to play HLS streams without success. The last nightly being "VLC media player 1.2.0-git-20110801-0002 Twoflower"

Each build response the same: 1) it down loads and correctly parses the top level m3u8 file but then fails to playback segments. Watching messages on debug level shows VLC using very strange URLs with encoded chars that make no sense and then the messages have lots of strange chars such as:

Destroying the input for 'z+ 4[Pg7gۜ_1!vk:t*8\&R)-HӠ'֊u9(A-gSG'

So if the development team would like another to test this feature please contact me with builds to try or any other way I could help.

Well, Could you have a look if the NB from one month ago were better?

Tested:
http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/win ... -win32.exe

On both:
Windows XP and
Windows7.

Both VLC players at first gave a MS Visual C++ assertion failure on file httplive.c line 1375.

The VLC on MS XP continues to give the error on each attempt. On MS 7 it seems to give the error on every other attempt. Otherwise it gives the failure as seen before with strange URL and chars in message log.

Let me know if I can provide any more info.

OK. So this is not a regression...
