Playing Pal Dvd's

Postby Gibrril » 30 Jul 2011 15:46

Hi all,

Recently I tried to play a Pal Dvd using VLC. This didn't work.
I tried it on different PC using Windows Vista and Windows 7. All systems said the dvd I inserted was a blank...

I'm using Pc's (and laptops) that were sold in Belgium to play a dvd that was made in the Philippines.
Everey single machine said the dvd was a blank...Can this be caused by the fact the DVD is in the PAL format?

I've heard about making dvd drives region free using firmware updates... How do you do that?

Can VLC Play any PAL region DVD?

Thanks a lot,

Gibrril

Hi all,

I tried inserting another PAL disc into my computers, and this did show content (yet this PAL dvd was PAL dvd from the Western European Region)
I thought I'd mention it to be complete.

Thanks a lot,

Gibrril

No. Only difference between PAL and NTSC DVD movie is the video track (which has different resolution and FPS). If the DVD is correctly authored and burned/pressed, the disc content should always show up.

Yes. With computers PAL and NTSC doesn't matter at all.
