Converting .ps file to mp3

This may be a dumb question and if it is I apologise in advance.

I used VLC to record streaming audio from a radio station (.asx) but it saved as a .ps file. I need to convert this to mp3 so I can upload it to a website. (The audio is of an interview with a member of a community group and it's going on their site)

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I tried a couple of different programs but can't get it to work.

sorry. am having the same problem dont understand what you mean by the encoding business. how did you do this?

Medias / Convert, select the file, press Convert/Save, select Audio MP3, and confirm.

i found this topic when i had the same problem as the first poster,
I've tried both of the options there were given, or I'm doing something wrong, but the output file stays .ps

I've tried this but when you choose were to save the output file, the file type by "save as" won't change to mp3 or any audio file but stays to .ps

edit: when i select "raw" input vlc player does nothing, the title bar of vlc player says: "streaming"

as well i would like to convert about 20 files - can i put them all together or do i have to take every one after the other?

...but:
...1st: converted video or whatever-mediafile into *.ps-format
...2nd: converted this *.ps-file into audiofile by choosing the outfile-format "audio -mp3", renamed the file as *.mp3 (it´s origin-name was still *.ps) and confirm

its working

edit:
i "performed" the "renaming" of the *.ps-file in the 2nd step inside the convert-dialogue, not in the win-explorer after converting.

I used avidemux. Its easier and faster. Only one step. VLC is a great media player. But as an audio extractor/ripper, not so much. What are you supposed to do with a .ps file anyway?

BTW: You may not have noticed, but the mp3 file you ended up with is still the same size as the original file, which means you didn't convert anything. All you did was cripple the video track. Avidemux actually rips the audio track and saves it as an actual mp3. Epic fail VLC.

*.ps is just a synonym for *.mpg...

And extracting MP3 tracks with VLC works fine.

How much smaller? I think when I tried to do it, it was smaller but less than a MB smaller. With AVIdemux, the original was 8MB and the mp3 I made is 3.36MB. In none of my Googling, did somebody suggest converting to a .ps file then to an mp3 file. It supposed to be possible to do in one step. I guess I'll try that.

the videofile is exactly 22.75MB and the output-audio-file is exactly 2.31MB (128kbit/s).
(i tried the "2-step-convertion" again, and it worked fine again)

and sure, it supposed to be possible in one step, but vlc did not convert a video-file into an audio-file in one step (on my pc), although defining the output-file in the converting-dialogue as an audio-file (*.mp3). as a result i always got a *.ps-file.

Just change the file extension from .ps to .mp3- viola !
