VLC Media Player Update

Is there a way of updating the VLC Media Player without the need to uninstall the previous version in order to upgrade to the new version? It’s frustrating to have to rest all the file paths I use with the VLC Media Player every time a new upgrade is available. Many thanks in advance.

In general, yes. But this depens on the installation method. Most executable installers and binary packages cannot deal with this, while manual zip files do.
