some files won't play any more

At least one mpg and one avi file that used to play in older versions of VLC will not play in any recent version. I just downloaded 1.1.10, same problem. All other files play with no problems. These two files play without a problem using the DivX player and Windows Media Player. With VLC, the first frame is displayed, the timer advances, but the picture does not advance. I can move the slider to pick up other frames, but the files don't actually play. I'm on Windows Vista SP2, Quad CPU at 2.33Ghz, 6Gb of memory. Windows and drivers are fully updated.
Any suggestions? File a bug report?

Please open Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2) before you start the playback and then paste the full resulting log here or on Pastebin if it's too long.
Also upload a SHORT sample of a problematic file to Multiupload.com, so it will upload the file for you to several other hosts, and then post the link to the file here.
