How can I play a Live Webcast directly on VLC MP?

This is the question.

I have the "http://...." link to the streaming video, I can watch it on the webcasters web site but how can I watch it with the VLC MP?
What kind of settings are needed?

Direct video URL, in case the protocol is supported by VLC. Then use Media -> Open Network Stream...
