VLC 1.1.0 FINAL + Playlist .m3u

Hello everybody,

since using vlc 1.1.0 (final and RC? too) I have problems to use my good old m3u play lists.

My environments:

- Win 7 x64, file-system NTFS
- all mp3 files are in one folder
- this folder is the second sub folder from root: \\folder1\folder2\mp3-Files & m3u-play list
- in the same folder is my m3u-play list & every mp3-file
- the play list is in ANSI-code & every mp3-file take one line:

File 1.mp3
File 2.mp3
File 3.mp3

That is all to say about it.

VLC 1.0.5 works with this play list but 1.1.0 cannot use them

VLC 1.1.0 tells this:

the name from file 2 has 3 words....

I can play every mp3 file without play list.

I have no idea what the problem is because 1.0.5 works great with it. What has changed or what is to do to fix it?

this is the m3u-list, the songs are in the same folder as the list - 10 minutes ago it worked under 1.0.5, but under 1.1.0 it won't.....
(downgraded to 1.0.5... waiting for bugfixes and/or some good answers)

As far as I can tell, m3u support in VLC 1.1.0 is completely broken - how this passes even the most basic regression testing is beyond my comprehension I've been using m3u files with VLC for many years. As of VLC 1.1.0 suddenly none of them work. I get the same sort of errors as the previous poster. Most (but not all) of my m3u files were created with MP3 Book Helper, although I can see nothing unusual about any of the m3u files I've created in that way. An example m3u file that will not work in VLC 1.1.0 but works fine in foobar2000:

You might think that I could manually fix the playback of tracks brought into the Playlist via m3u by simply deleting that "\\" prefix directly in the Location fields, but you'd be wrong. If I try, I still get this sort of thing in Errors when attempting to playback the repaired entry in Playlist:

Obviously there's more to the broken m3u problem than simply what appears to be the path to the track files.

Half the reason I use VLC for music is for m3u playlists. The other half is streaming Internet radio using Shoutcast. Given the loss of both abilities, VLC 1.1.0 just became a downgrade to a video-only player

I found, by trial and error, that prefacing each file name with "file:///" makes the m3u file work. Unfortunately that breaks it for any other audio player.

Not a fix, but it is a work around.

I too use vlc to play m3u playlists, which 1.1 cannot do.
I will downgrade to 1.0.5 now and wait until that issue is fixed.....

Yep, broken here too, exactly the same way - Win7 x64, previously working ( in 1.0.5 ) m3u's now refuse to work with 1.1.0, with reports such as :

Just double clicking on the .flac file itself plays just fine. But life is too short to double click on every file I want to listen to .

There's nothing particularly remarkable here - as far as Windows is concerned, \\E:\Music\Led Zeppelin\Physical Graffiti Disc 1\ is *not* a valid network path.

I'm suspicious of the attempt to use Windows\CSC, it suggests that perhaps everything is simply being treated as a network path by default.

I've had a very quick look at the code.

Looks like we're passing through this bit of code in InputSourceInit :

Trouble is, we are starting with the MRL 'file://X:\y\z', because that's what FindPrefix() has given us. So input_SplitMRL gives us a psz_path of 'X:\y\z', but the ' psz_path[-2] && psz_path[-1]' test passes ( because input_SplitMRL has *only* nulled the ':' in the input string ). Therefore we 'add back' the "\\" to the path which was right to start with.

Of course, this could be gibberish, it was a very quick look !.

Well just downloaded ver1.1.10 and it still won't play all my m3u playlists. They do play fine in Winamp and Media Player. It's too bad cause I like VLC a lot but rely on my hundreds of playlist too much .. so back to Winamp for now

The playlists have been created in Winamp and open fine in Winamp, WMP, iTunes but when I try to open in VLC ver 1.1.10 I get this error message:
