Problem with Frame-by-Frame function

Postby vidjim » 30 May 2011 20:02

Hello,
I have a problem with the Frame by Frame function. After some clikcs, say 12-15, VLC media player freezes for ever. Then I have to use the "End Task" in order to shut VLC MP down and then restart it. But it will freeze again after some clicks of the Frame by frame".
What might be the problem?

I have a second question.
How the "Record" button (the red one) works?
Can I Record only a certain part of a video with this function? Then save it with a different name and play it?

Thanks
jim

Thanks for your reply.
regarding my second question, where is the new file stored and how can we access it.
I click on the "record" button, the background color changes from white to grey, looking that it is pressed and then I press it again to finish the record function, but then nothing happens and I don't know where the new file is.

One more question please.
is there a reverse function in normal speed or slow motion or frame-by-frame?
Sometimes I miss a frame and I need to get back a couple of frames is it possible?

It should be in your video folder.
No, there isn't a reverse.

how is this file normally named by VLC MP?
so I can try a search.

Reverse would be great, I hope you add it sometime in the future.

Hi vidjim,
If you record today a part of a movie named "Dark Star.avi", at 18h32m38s, the file name will show exactly this :
vlc-record-2011-05-31-18h32m38s-Dark Star.avi-.avi
So a search on "vlc-record-2011-" should be enough to find anything you'll record during 2011

Now the location : on my Windows XP system, Vlc videos are stored by default in the following folder :
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrateur\Mes documents\Mes vidéos

In case you prefer to store them in a more accessible folder, then you'll have to indicate it in Vlc Preferences :
Tools => Preferences => Input & Codecs => Record Directory or Filename

Then click on the "Browse" button (on the right) to reach the folder you want to use.
Don't forget to Save your Preferences, Quit Vlc and launch it again

Good luck :D

solazy, many thanks. I opened that folder and I found about 50 files, they were there and I didn't know.

May I ask the support team if the reverse function is in the cards in the foreseeable future?

Most likely not, since there isn't a good way to implement it (in such way it would work correctly with most videos).
