if you can't fix this portaudio-problem:

can you add a filter/option to the wave(win32)-output for 32bit float to 32bit fixedpoint output/conversion?

as it is now, i'm just getting 16bit fixedpoint output. 32bit float doesn't work with my soundcard.

portaudio was a nice way to get around this problem and to output 24bits.

Mac OS X VLC 082-test2 no H264

Postby geo » 08 Jun 2005 01:03

A lovely, much cleaner interface in this version - thanks to all. Those unweildy prefs are now much clearer. Stream Out window on MacOS is also much more logical.

I tried test2 on Tiger 10.4.1 today and did not see any way to get H.264 transcoding output.

It would be wonderful to have the option to use either x264 or Apple's Quicktime-based H.264 if the underlying OS supports it.

Is there a legal reason why VLC doesn't use QuickTime component architecture for output?

A preview of Quicktime for Windows is now on the Apple site.

I'm at WWDC this week (7 JUN) and offer to anyone if I can help make contacts or ask pertinent questions of the Apple folks. mail me on geo {at] mac dot com

Vector Linux 4.0 (Slackware-based)
kernel 2.4.28
gcc 3.2.2

Everything I could throw at it played perfectly.
Hotkeys now work for audio-only files.
Left pane of Preferences menu is now expanding appropriately.

However, in the playlist, neither "repeat" function works (no repeats happen).

Hmm.. I managed to get rid of the crash I was telling you about.. apparently you guys had changed what you could do with the prefs and since I had a nonstandard config for prefs it caused VLC to crash.. got around it by resetting all the prefs to normal before VLC crashed again. Anyway I ran into a new error.. while do a 10 second fast forward I got the spinning ball of death resulting in VLC crashing.. heres the error log.

Help

Postby DrewK34939@aol.com » 08 Jun 2005 20:38

George,

I take it you are a real fan of VLC. I am here working on the WWDC until Friday.

After loading Tiger and the VLC 0.8.1, the audio went away on my movie files that did play back fine on VLC 0.7.1???

I also have some questions about using VLC for streaming.

If you have any time and think you could help, please email me, DrewK34939@aol.com.

Thanks,

Drew Kelsey

Couldn't be happier with this version....
VLC is now again as solid as a rock.
no more resolution/full screen switching crashes, no more dropping audio and the addition of several new keyboard shortcuts is very welcome

problems with disabled "size to video"

Postby Dandruff » 09 Jun 2005 04:08

two issues with disabled "size to video" (wxwindows):

- vlc often produces black lines (artefacts) when you resize the window while watching a video ...

- starting vlc with a big size -> now enable the extended gui -> now their background (without sliders and fonts) is also shown in the black (empty) video-space. after minimizing and restoring vlc it's gone ...

Postby Dandruff » 09 Jun 2005 05:03

as soon as i start playback, the volume-silder gets fixed -> so i'm unable to change volume. i'm in waveout(win32)-mode with disabled "float32".

maybe you can see some helpful information in the log:

This is a crash in a part of OSX. no idea why. I cannot see anything that could be causing this. Perhaps a threading issue, but even that seems quite unlikely.

Mac OS X 10.4.1:

The thin green (opengl?) line that surrounds all playing video files is still present on OS X 10.4.1.

`coreaudio' errors pop-up from time to time when trying to play mp3 files: seems sporadic, odd.

intermittent crashes: see above posts.

I have found a couple of annoying bugs/glitches in the Mac OS X version.
* The VLC window dont resize back to its original size when you close the playlist.
* The resize field in the lower right corner overlay the Fullscreen button.

Don't use 0.8.1 on Tiger :D Use this 0.8.2-test2

The small errors are a known problem. I'm looking into that.

funny to see (not only in this thread) how vlc media player is obviously used more by mac-users/linux-users than by windows-users... don´t they know about "big brother" called wmp and all its limitations?

although i use the "development-versions" since i know about them ..., i have to say a big "thank you" to everyone who´s involved in the development of this simply fantastic application.

great work, great job done!

hope i´ll find some time in the future to write some new skins to take a little part...

trying to turn on deinterlacing on .avi and .ogm files crashes both the test versions, the files i tested used xvid as the video codec (i dont remember it crashing 0.8.1) i have some anime fansubs with quite nasty interlacing so used to use it quite often for some series. also this may not be the correct place but the differance between no post procesing ang highest post processing seems minimal at best, is anything else needed as well like a upto date video card or having the codecs on your system?

edit - using xp with sp1 atm and 0.8.2 test2

The DivX 5 file i was having problems with, seems to be back to normal now ;)!
I don't remenber wether i had said this before or not, but there still seems to be a small hiccup when the first subtitle dialog is displayed. I believe it happens both with .srt (subrip) and vob sub (.idx + .sub) subtitles. If i remember this correctly, it started to happen with test 1 or some nightlies before that. This doesn't happen with 0.8.1.

frying_fish

bug?

Postby frying_fish » 10 Jun 2005 18:34

not sure if its actually a bug or not but in all the versions i have used so far whenever you try to skip to a certain point in a file by clicking on it on the slider it doesn't actually jump to that point. don't suppose this feature could be made to work

(using the windows version right now, just have to go about compiling it for my slackware distro soon)

but as a side note the new layout looks really nice, its pushing it on well!

VLC is coming along nicely now got some great features, its the only one that so far in windows correctly sends audio via spdif, so thanx again!

It is because the decoders and filters for displaying are being loaded once the first sub is about to be displayed.

Still lots of seek errors playing FLAC files. To duplicate move the slider or use the forward/back buttons on the Mac client.
