Not able to install VLC Media Player 1.1.9

First of all, in case it is an issue, my OS is Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit.

Several days ago, I got a message to upgrade VLC Media Player. When I tried to do this, it seems to have deleted my old version, but did not install the new version.

I have downloaded vlc-1.1.9-win32 but when I try to open the setup program, I get a message that says: C:\Users\Ella\Desktop\vlc-1.1.9.exe is not a valid Win32 application.

I have tried re-downloading the setup files several times, and each time I get the same message.

Also, now when I reboot, am getting an error message that says: Error loading C:\Users\Ella\AppData\Local\tumsriel.dll Access is denied.

I assume these two error messages are related ??????

I will greatly appreciate any advice as to how to fix this. I really miss the VLC Player.

Also, whatever suggestions you give me should be worded in such a way that "even a complete idiot" can understand them, as I am not much of a techno person.

I had a minor problem installing 1.1.9, but it was easily fixed. The previous version was 1.1.7, and when I went to install 1.1.9, it uninstalled 1.1.7 - as it is supposed to. But after it did that, it locked up and refused to install 1.1.9. A quick check found the problem: for whatever reason, the "vlc.exe" file did not uninstall, so the 1.1.9 installation program couldn't go any further. I went into Windows Explorer (Windows XP Media Center Edition) and physically deleted the file "vlc.exe" from the "Program Files/videolan/vlc" directory, then ran the 1.1.9 installer again - it worked just fine this time, and 1.1.9 is alive and kicking.
