VLC media player 0.8.2-test1 beta release

Both 0.8.1 and 0.8.2 crash on my Powerbook G4 running Tiger, when I press play, with the error: spudec decoder error: i_x overflowed, 970 > 720.

This error comes up immediately upon beginning to play the disk. I don't see anyone else having this error, so I must have a problem. Could there be something lying around from an earlier version of VCL?

Well, I have me an HDTV 1080i Transport Stream which 0.8.2-test1 (win32) fails to play; or even acknowledge, for that matter..

It's an a52 audio and mpgv video file. VLC only acknowledges the audio stream and follows to attempt playback. Which fails.
Length gauge is also faulty in that it doesn't receive any..

Just as a point of interest.

why oh why can vlc not pass ac3 audio to my optically connected surround sound?

i have not been able to find any other player which cannot perform this seemingly simple task.

I dont know what u all use VLC for but i love to use it for preview b4 burn of rar files, VLC has saved my time and disappointment of stuff that dont really work. VLC automatically tells me if i can use or not I just love it.

I was glad to see the enhancements to the Beta version, but I still lose sound and crash in Tiger 10.2.1 (Build 8B15) on my PowerBook Al G4.

As a fan of Japanese anime, VLC is essential for viewing with subtitles, so I hope these problems are corrected soon.

this build is the only one that doesn't crash on my w2k dualie when trying to direct stream an off-the-shelf dvd.

this one is great.

btw, i use something called dvdIdle which basically catches the access from an app to a device and caches it in memory/disk. i found it because i was using an old dvd-rom in my home theatre pc and occasional read delays would hiccup anything, but dvdidle will just go and cache default around 300mb a shot and buffer it. obviously it'll hog resources and take over the swapfile if the buffer is huge, but it did work great for what i needed it to; to build a buffer just in case of re-reads. i've since replaced the whole configuration, but still had dvdidle.

now i tried dvdidle on a laptop, and i got almost 3x the time out of a charge using it and PowerDVD. I could watch all of 2 movies on one charge (screen dimmed). I wanted to try VLC as the player, but when I add VLC as an app to watch access to files/drives, vlc starts, but then crashes.

it's no big deal, but is it possible to set a buffer in a field to do burst reads into memory? i can't really find the setting, upping the buffer in vlc doesn't seem to increase physical or virtual memory and there's no way to find out how much "buffer" it's using (that i can figure out), but jacking up a burstable-read buffer setting in vlc by itself would really be cool.

Hi.

Just to note that I've downloaded the latest build and am getting the full-screen crash that others are reporting.

Not sure if this has been covered elsewhere but I downloaded the dev builds due to Tivo support. -test1 didn't have any sound for me, but this nightly has worked fine.

Do you get this EACH time you try to launch VLC ?
Try deleting your org.videolan.vlc.pllist file in the Prefs. Might just be broken.
