Worse quality of same video on a 2nd VLC instance

Postby plotzzz » 12 Apr 2011 12:09

I realize with horror :wink: that when I play the same video file in a second instance of VLC the image quality is worse (tried "predefined" and "diectX" output options).
If only the first instance is good, it makes impossible to compare the original video and one's compressed video with accuracy.
How can I change that ?

Thanks but it does not help. I've tried DirectX 3D, DirectX, OpenGL and Windows GDI with or without overlay, the quality is always worse then the first instance with DirectX. This is very disappointing...
Anything else ?

Is there some screenshots you could share to us?

I can't send screenshots unfortunately. The VLC snapshot feature gives the slightly "blurry" result. In order to have the good quality, I need the "overlay" option (mistake in my previous post), take a manual screenshot but when I paste it on Paint it does not work (the image is in the graphic card memory and not in the system RAM I guess). But believe me. Every second instance is slightly blurry.

You can only have one Overlay in use. So the issue is that without overlay the second VLC shows something wrong, but it shouldn't be wrong with all video output modules.

Try to change the swscale mode in preferences.

Deactivate RGB->YUV conversions in hardware.
