Sound cuts out in EMule preview using VLC

Postby ragtopcaddy » 23 Dec 2003 22:57

I am trying to preview a download in EMule. The file is not completely downloaded yet, but I am able to preview what's there, except that the sound just cuts off completely and doesn't come back on. Then I can close the dashboard easily, but the screen stays up and won't close. I have to close it in Task Manager, and even then, it doesn't close immediately. Then I can preview the file again in VLC, but the sound will cut out again, but not at the same place in the file. I'm hoping this is a common problem and someone can help me out with an explanation/solution.
Thanks

Bill

skipping sound with alsa

Postby dxrd » 06 Feb 2004 07:28

 I'm having same kind of difficulties with the player. I've got alsa 0.9.7 as a sound system (kernel-2.6.1-version) and a Hoontech DSP24 Value card in the system.

In fact, every file I try to play, skips sound. It doesn't matter do I use some P2P-software's preview option, the sound just skips... buffer overrun maybe, or something ?

I would be really greatful too if somebody could help me out.

possible improvement to VLC ? (GNOME-VLC)

Postby dxrd » 06 Feb 2004 07:53

I tought that why don't I try to diagnose the problem a little further by myself, before bothering more everybody else.

First thing that popped into my mind was to disable for example SDL, just to see how the program reacts... but I couldn't found a switch how to disable one particular module from VLC...

Am I just being blind (as usual ? ;) ) or do we have a new added feature here ?

You can't just disable one module, but you can select which module to use for a specific tast. This is all available in the preferences window.

Open the messages window (from the View menu in the GUI) and restart the stream. You will get all debug messages.

no sound in avi preview using Xp

I cannot get the sound to work in preview mode, also when I use the taskmanager to shut down vlc after it crashes, this causes my pc to die instantly, and then restart.
