"VLC could not open the encoder"

Postby marcusw » 29 Mar 2011 16:55

Hello

I am using VLC for Windows version 1.1.8 on Windows XP SP3. I would like to convert a .M4V file to MPG.

The M4V file plays fine on VLC.

To do the conversion, I choose Media / Convert then add the name of the M4V file, then I click convert, type in the name filename.mpg and select the profile named Video - MPEG-2 + MPGA (TS)

I press Start and immediately get this error message:

"Streaming / Transcoding failed:
VLC could not open the encoder."

Can someone help?

Thanks
Marcus

I have had a similar problem in the past, in fact I wouldn't be surprised if your problem is related to mine. However this crew can't do anything unless you provide them with some additional information.

viewtopic.php?f=14&t=88912 <-- Here is my thread. In there they request that you give your windows version (which you've already done) and that you go into go into your messages (Tools > Messages) and turne up the verbocity to level 2. Once you do that attempt to encode again. Go back into messages and copy the whole thing to a site like http://www.pastebin.com and then link it here.

More than likely it's an error opening the video encoder like it was for me, and I hate to say it, but these guys haven't helped me with it yet. Maybe you'll have better luck with them.

MPEG-2 encoder is SUPER picky about settings. Wrong resolution, FPS etc. and it won't start at all.
