Crashing in 64bit win7

I have been using vlc for years and i absolutely love this player.

recently, i bought a new laptop which has win7 ultimate 64 bit edition. So i downloaded te latest version of vlc 1.1.7 and installed it onto both my desktop (running win7 ultimate 32 bit... vlc updated to 1.1.7) and the laptop.
On win7 32bit desktop, it runs smoothly and real great. the hotkeys and stuff works perfectly. On the laptop, vlc does work, but the hotkeys dont... for example, ctrl-up and ctrl-down dont change the volume. I double checked the preferences>hotkey and these keys are mapped for the proper volume control...

also trying to scroll thru the playlist fast, clicking/double-clicking any control fast tends to make vlc not-responding. Once so, waiting does not make it come back... i have to do an end process and restart VLC... but no such problems on the desktop...

I even compared all the settings of vlc on my desktop and laptop. both are same. So are the win7 settings on both... except for the fact that one is 32bit and the other is 64bit....

So, most probably, this is an error caused by running vlc '32bit' on win7 64bit....
I know that many 32bit programs do run on 64bit windows... So I am not sure wether this is the case, but i think so...

Is there a native 64bit build of vlc for win 64bit??? if so, then maybe some of us can test it out... I mean i also saw many 'buttons unclickable' and so on problems in case of 64bit windows...

VLC should run on both 32 and 64 bits without issues.
I have to say that I am clueless about this issue.

Did you try to change video and audio output in preferences?

nothing that i know of... i mean i set 'allow vol to be set to 200%' and default vol to be 512. also, i set allow only 1 instance and enque files when in 1 instance mode.

but i set the same in win7-32bit too and vlc runs gr8...

This happens to me also.


Only difference is I have a desktop instead of a laptop.


I've noticed it stops responding when scrolling too fast or if I click or double click something it crashes, each time I have sent the report on restart. I mainly use VLC to watch avi's and everytime I've finished watching one avi, when I go to click 'File' and 'Add File' VLC crashes, sometimes I have to ctrl alt and delete and end process other times it will automatically close.


Any idea what's causing this or what we can do to stop this from happening.



Edit: It may also be worth mentioning I've changed these settings in previous VLC

video: deinterlacer automatic yadif 2x
input & codecs : use gpu acceleration


However 1.1.6 worked fine with these settings, but since I installed 1.1.7 the above mentioned happens frequently.

Me too. Used VLC for a couple years without ever an issue. Now with 64bit laptop I can no longer access anything. I've uninstalled and re-installed several times, it loads but I can access NOTHING in the file windows at the top. Help, View, Tools, Video, Audio, Playback, Media. the screen just sits there showing all the buttons and logo, but no access to any files or folders. I used to use this player for everything and now can use it for absolutely nothing. What have I done wrong?

Hi there,

unfortunately I need to contribute in the same manner. I did run VLS until V1.1.5 on a Windows XP 64-bit Edition whitout any problems. Therefore I used at last installation file vlc-1.1.5-win32.exe. The installation was fine and also the handling.

But after downloading vlc-1.1.7-win32.exe the installation went wrong by bringing up an error message window called NSIS Error. The error text says that more information ist available under http://nsis.sf.net/NSIS_Error but there's only a trivial notice, that this page has been deleted because spam.

So, what's to do - ist tehe a workaround or may I suggest to release a dedicated 64-bit version?
