video and audio not sync

Postby dazi001 » 15 Mar 2011 21:10

Hi,

I am using VLC 1.1.7 as streaming server (HTTP).
OS is Win XP, SP2.
I figured out the problem, that the audio gets more and more
delayed the longer I stream. Each 24 hours it is about 8 sec more delayed.
I tried already "properties - straem - s-out- transcode - synchronize based on Audio"
but this does not change anything.
I am new to VLC and streaming - so I hope there are some other setting
someone can tell me...

Thanks

I believe the only settings are:
Synchronise on audio track, in Preferences
Or
command option <audio-sync> in transcode string

DVB-T (or S) input devices have been reported to have problems with audio / video sync.
Could possibly be a soundcard hardware related problem if using analog capture input?

The synchronize on audio track does not change anything.
But the <audio-sync> maybe a good hint. I will try this. Thanks.

Actually I am using an usb-video capture device which is connected to the
chinch-output of my receiver. This is audio and video input as well.
The soundcard is not involved.
And as I said - after starting the streaming it is snchron.

My problem is, that I will be off by friday for 4 weeks. and I would like
to watch tv during that time. So I have no more time to make long tests.
Thats why I made a quick-and-dirty solution:
I installed a remote-control-software on the streaming PC.
if the desync is only small, I can adjust it with J an K on the slave.
Otherwise I connect to the streaming PC, stop VLC, start it again (and
enter all that settings because I not yet found a way to save them) and
it will be fine for that day.
I know, not the best solution ... but it works.

Thank you

If you have remote control and can restart VLC..

You could write a batch file with all your settings, for a one click solution..

Good hint - thans a lot.
That would have been my next point.
I already tried a bit, but was also lost - I assume also because of quotes and where to put them.
As the s-out is very similar to mine, this will definitively help me.
My be I can try this even by remote.

Hopefully someone can help me in the same way with the original problem - the increasing desynchronisation
of audio and video.

Thanks

Re your original desync problems...
If you carefully read through this post and especially the other links in that post...

It would seem that some hardware (DVB-x and perhaps some other usb devices) in Windows are having a problem with audio sync. There does not appear to be a fix at the moment. It might be worth trying VLC 1.0.5 to see if it works ( it does in the Linux case). This earlier version is now unsupported and has various bugs. So up to you?
My own setup in Win XP uses a bt878 video capture card and soundcard for audio. I do not suffer any audio sync problem at least up to 15hrs ( last tested on VLC 1.1.4 ) . So a change in capture hardware may well work for you.
