dedicated frame by frame review mode.

Postby mikeloeven » 14 May 2010 05:04

there is one feature that i want to see in vlc and i am surprised that it doesn't seem to exist. there is no way to scroll frame by frame in a video file well there technically is but the selected frame will not always render properly while the video is paused. you can slow down the video and try to pause it at the exact place you want but this can be rather hard to do. i propose a mode that can be enabled and disabled by a check box in video options. the mode would be called either editing mode of precision mode. when enabled the video will pause. when you drag the slider instead of jumping to a specific time it will jump to the key frame closest to the time selected and render it on the screen while still paused. the mouse scroll wheel will be the primary interface when this mode is enabled each click on the wheel will either advance or rewind one frame at a time with the frame rate controlled by the speed of the wheel. i am proposing this to make it easier to review files and check for errors and other corruption in the file as well as any other specialized needs of the video editing community.

Not all media formats support key frame seeking. And with live streaming, it wouldn't work. If you need video editor VLC, http://trac.videolan.org/vlmc/
