Capturing Audio from DAT file

Postby ilikecoding » 15 Feb 2011 19:37

Hi,
I have five DAT files which contain both audio and video it plays fine in VLC player. I want to capture the audio from these DAT files as MP3 or WAVE and play it in my car while i drive. Is there a way to capture the audio from these files using the VLC player?
thank you,

Convert the file with VLC and select only the audio

Once convert is selected, there are four tabs, one that says File, Disc, Network and Capture Device. On the file one, i selected the file to be converted. No subtitles. Then i clicked on the Convert/Save button and then selected the file to be saved to. I selected the format as Audio - MP3. Then i clicked on the configuration button to the right of this, the one with the wrench icon. i selected the audio tab and then i selected MP3 and then Save. Then i clicked Save and it went. i spent some time to figure this out. Hopefully, you will have an easier time when you see this post.
