I usually play them from a network share and the originals @ 50Mb/s mostly playback ok, although I get the occasional freeze. I've tried a number of different x264 settings (using ffmpeg) but I can't get them to play reliably without regular freezeing.
Doing a two pass encode using these settings http://www.itbroadcastanddigitalcinema. ... howto.html which takes about 24 Hours, helps smooth out some of the wrinkles, but still doesn't eliminate them. Copying the files on to the non system drive and playing from there doesn't really help much either.
My system is as follows: E8500 @ 3.16GHz, WIn 7 x64, 8GB with two internal drives. Video card = ATI Radeon HD 4300. Task manager never reaches 100% although it does spike to about 80% when it freezes.
BTW if I turn on hardware acceleration I get judder, or at least more judder than without.
