Question about VLC plugin for Firefox

Postby gumper » 03 Feb 2011 23:02

OK sorry if this is a noob question but I want to know if VLC player plays Flash video, why doesn't the VLC plug-in work in my browser to play streaming flash? I don't want to install Flash player if possible.
If the VLC plug-in doesn't work that way, what is it in my browser for?

Thanks

Correction, I don't want to have to install Adobe Flash Player if I don't have to.

VLC can play pure Flash videos, but it cannot run the Flash virtual machine. So it wouldn't make sense to register VLC with the browser for Flash.

You would need to use something like gnash instead.

Gnash? That sounds like a Linux thing and I'm on Windows. So basically, VLC installs a plugin in Firefox that's absolutely useless. Im not sure why then VLC would do that but good to know. What really blows is the fact that we're so reliant on Adobe then.

Thanks for the reply Remi.
