VLC crash with an invalid RSS url

VLC crash with an invalid RSS url

Postby tester2010 » 13 Jan 2011 06:31

So i'm testing the RSS feature. but if vlc get's an error (if the file does not exist, if there's a typo in the url, or the server redirects from 1 page to another to display the feed) it crashes. this is specially annoying when one is streaming a playlist
Would be expected that RSS stops to work, or vlc shows a message but not to crash.

I wonder if it's possible to get the sdk (i have never worked with it but i know some programming) and add a rudimentary "xml rss integrity cheker" to later share it with the community.
If is not possible, I hope this can be fixed in the next version

:)

I cannot reproduce the issue (I tried windows and linux, gui and command line).
I get an error when the rss does not exists, and no crash :
rss error: Failed to open jgrzopejgropjrgpe for reading

Double check you are using 1.1.5, and if it is the case, give a step by step procedure to reproduce the bug.

As i said , you got a wrong idea, I'm using 1.1.5
I'm using Windows XP. if you are right, probably happens only with XP

I have not tested command line. happens using gui. pasting a url into the vlc's rss box, playing the video, with 1 of the following siuations:
(if the file does not exist, if there's a typo in the url, or the server redirects from 1 page to another to display the feed)
Vlc crashes.
If I change the url for a valid one, all works fine.

mhm...
I tested in the computer of a friend . XP aswell.
Same results.
If some one had this same problem and fixed it someway, or know how to report a bug, let me know.

thanks.

@sebastian: are you testing in windows or an emulator?

you can download vlc source code here :
http://wiki.videolan.org/Git
rss is in modules/video_filter

Give step by step, from the begining, how you repdroduce the bug

I'm having a similiar problem with rss feed crashing vlc like after a few minutes. I think there is some bad information in the feed why this happens. I'm running Windows 7 with VLC 1.1.9.

Such a vague description is not very helpful.
