saving captured video and audio

Postby mark.farnell » 03 Jan 2011 10:09

My computer runs on Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick) amd64 with vlc 1.1.4 installed.

I am trying to capture some analog videos from my VHS video tape player. For testing, I plug the analog RCA outputs of the DVD player to Dazzle DVC 100, which is in turn connected to the computer via a USB 2.0 port.

In VLC capture device menu, the video capture device is set to:

/dev/video0

The audio capture device is set to:

hw:1,0

with the option set to "PAL"

Amazingly, the playback works out of the box. However how can I save the capture video/audio pair? Can this be done in vlc? If not, what commands are invoked by vlc under the carpet?

Thanks!

Mark
