VLC slower than XawTV

Hello,
I was wondering if I can get VLC to speed up displaying the video from a capture card. It lags behind XawTV like half to a whole second. I've set caching under Show more options to zero.
Really appreciate any advise,

I too am wondering about this... I'm trying to connect my Xbox to VLC but the delay is unbearable, at least in Ubuntu!
