Hangs repeatedly

Postby praseniisc » 13 Dec 2010 10:35

think it is time to build VLC player for 64-bit windows. Vlc player hangs repeatedly in windows 7 64 bit. Another major problem is that it goes to black screen in the middle of something running (directx output). Please solve this problems as early as possible.

Win64 builds wouldn't solve those issues.

I had the same problems on WinXP 32-bit. VLC 1.1.5 would hang on startup, or freeze video during playback (audio continuing), or just display a black screen (with audio). Once it hung, it was very difficult to kill the process. Only a reboot of the system would get it playing again. Happened with several AVI/xvid videos, and on 2 different computers. I finally had to un-install and install 1.1.4. Can't tell you more without upgrading back to 1.1.5 again -- and that's a pain since I depend on VLC working. I'm sticking with 1.1.4.

A friend had complained about very similar issues on a late-model Mac, presumably running 1.1.5 for MacOS. I didn't believe her until I upgraded to 1.1.5 on Windows. Now I know what she is talking about. She said it would freeze in the middle of a video and only a system reboot would get it working again.

Wish I could be more helpful.

I am also freezing up during playback. It doesn't matter what type of file I play video, audio, etc ... after about 45 seconds into playback video stops (screen looks like it would if paused) audio also appears to be paused. System is frozen and will not accept any input at all (not even Ctrl+Alt+Del). Please help before I go off the deep end uninstall VLC and go back to dealing with the BS of running multiple players.

I'm running as follows
VLC 1.1.5.0

System: Windows XP 2002 Service Pack 3
AMD Turion X2 Dual Core
2.00 GHz
1.74 GB RAM

Thanks,
Dan

Use VLC 1.1.4, it should work better.
