Can't access menu in skinned mode

I have just started using skins and when I select the menu and go to preferences and then click save or cancel I can no longer access the menu without first closing the program. IOW the menu is only available the first time you use it. I tried a bunch of different skins and it's the same in everyone. What can I do?

VLC version 1.1.5 and XP Pro SP3. I'm running it portable, but the same thing happened when I installed it.

Can confirm this for VLC 1.1.5 on Windows 7 Professional (32-bit)

Open any QT window (e.g. Open Media, Preferences) and close it using the close button (Closing with pressing escape does not produce the bug). Therafter no QT elements will show up, no context menu no windows.

Error message for each attempt to show a QT element after first window was closed:

I tried to create a ticket but Trac gives me an error each time I tried:
