The reply to my post never got to me.
If I play a DVD and sellect No DVD Menus it plays without skipping.

But if I go through the menue and go to play the movie the whole movie will skip?

Why?

Hello,
sorry for reviving of so old a thread.
I have almost exactly an opposite problem - when I open the DVD (it appears with one particular disc) with menus, I cannot select any menu option. The 21 secs long "menu chapter" plays (with few buffering pauses) to its end, then the playback of the movie itself automatically starts.
I have tested this DVD in Windows Media Player 11 as well - there the playback fails entirely and an error message appears, saying something about failed communication between my DVD drive, DVD decoder and GPU, and advising me to update my GPU drivers.
Edit: I use VLC media player 1.1.7 on Windows XP SP3.
