VLC in cinemas

Postby littlebear » 23 Nov 2010 07:43

hi I have an inquiry and hoping some people could help me out.
hopefully I've got the right part of the forums.
i'm a designer, not a programmer, so excuse the tech IQ.

basically, where I work has two cinemas which I make DVD's for on a monthly basis, displaying the venues upcoming offernings.
the system is archaic and is a real pain to update...if one thing needs changing / added, a whole new DVD has to be re authored.
ideally we would need to implement a propriety pre-show device which does this. but this is costly, and the place does not have the budget for it...apparently.

is it possible to make a pre-show cinema system using VLC and some kind of front and backend?

i need a system which uses playlists. these playlists are populated by myself, and all the projectionist needs to do is press one button and the playlist does its thing.
the playlist has to be able to have the functionality of looping any desired clips. It also needs to be able to run on a separate monitor. + any other functionality a pre-show system may have.

any help, greatly appreciated!

Pre-show are the ads + trailers for upcoming films...including where the fire exits are, turn your mobile phone off, grab yourself some popcorn from the candy bar etc...

Ok. You cannot do that with VLC now, because the actual release will close the video output between each file and people will notice it.

However 1.2.0 should be able to do it.

so, 1.2.0 won't close video output between files?
what about a front and back end system...loosely...how would this best be made? (html?, php?)
thanks again
