Video freezing with GPU acceleration enabled

I was having problems playing h.264 1080p videos on my computer, but after using the advise on the j-b topic that is pinned it's works fine now, but anyway I think that enabling GPU acceleration would also help, right?
When I enable it the video freezes very quickly after I hit play, I'm currently using a Asus G51vx-rx05 with a GTX 260M, running Windows 7 x64 and with the last available driver from Nvidia.
