dvd playback missing last miliseconds

hi, im playing an interactive language learning dvd and im having this problem:

there are some menus where you can click on a word to listen to its pronunciation... the problem is that vlc usually stops playback before (1second or less) the end of the last letter

does anyone know if there is any advanced setting to delay the jump back to the menu?
