line-out network stream

Postby spiffy2 » 25 Oct 2010 04:21

Hi All-

I'm interested in configuring my laptop to redirect its audio to my new HTPC over the wireless network so it can play on my stereo speakers instead of the tinny little laptop speakers. It seems like this might be possible by using VLC to set up a streaming source on the laptop and a sink on the HTPC. I basically want everything that would otherwise come out on the laptop speakers to play. Any hints for accomplishing this?

Incidentally, I've searched on this several times over the last several days, and there seems to be a lot of people asking how to do this (or similar), but no clear answers, so this might be a solution for a lot of people. In my case, the laptop is running XP and the HTPC is running Win7.

- Thx
