How to put the already installed codecs into VLC?

Postby mbelo » 20 Oct 2010 10:22

Hey guys,
I have a little problem with the VLC player. I want to convert an avi File with the vlc player.
The only problem is that the avi file is GEOV coded and VLC can't play this video.
I have already installed the GEOV codecs on my computer, so for example the media player classic, can open this video.

In preferences -> Input & Codecs Settings, I made already a check in "Use system codecs if available (better quality, bud dangerous)
After that I've even restarted the computer but it doesnt work...

Can someone help me please?

(Sorry for my english) =)

This option is only to use the Windows Media DMO codecs and the QuickTime codecs rather than the VLC built-in codecs. And IIRC the use of the QuickTime codecs has been recently disabled because of some compatibiliy issues.

VLC can not use any other external codec and other players can not use any of the VLC codecs. This is by design and it's not going to change.

"Posting about conversion software is now completly forbidden.

I didn't know this wasn't allowed. Just saw it today. I guess that is not a good topic to bring up.
