Move position - lose sound

Postby worzel » 08 Jun 2008 16:18

my player and all my files are fine except for this one batch that has a problem that is new to me.
[ they're just .avi files of tv shows ]
They start and play correctly but if I move position, forward or backwards with the slider or with keyboard shortcuts I lose all sound
then even if I move the slider to the beginning of the file there is never any sound. I have to start the file over again.

This is a problem because I was nearly at the end of an hour long show, and I'll have to let it play through so I can watch just the end.
I'd like to know what caused this so I can fix it quickly if it happens again in the future.

[ i tried rolling back to an old version of vlc and it still happened. It's the file not the player, but I thought someone here might have a clue, all the same]

I didn't fix the problem but I found a way around it. I used vlc to transcode to ogg format [ just the audio] and then played it as my sound channel at the position I wanted.

Hope this might help someone else with a similar problem.

I have an almost similar issue. For me, I only lose sound occasionally, normally after using multiple keyboard shortcuts (several Shift+Arrow(forward and/or back)). I'll lose sound completely no matter what I try but I can't close out VLC and restart it then move the slider to the previous location without it cutting out on me again.

It's quite annoying although not nearly as bad as worzel's problem.

I have the same problem, skipping forward or backward looses the sound. After a minute or so it comes back, sometimes longer. Which is a pain in the ..s since skipping
back or forward is almost impossible (especially short bit) since i have to guess how long the sound will be gone this time...
Solution anyone? Instead of recoding the audio???
Should i submit a bug report anywhere for this, if so where?
tnx

I've discovered that my audio comes back too. It hasn't taken a minute to do it, but typically, when it does occur, I'm only skipping a few seconds back. Not sure if jumping back longer cause longer delays or not.

i think this deserves more attention. i just had a very similar problem. this one .avi would play audio perfectly in the beginning but if i rw/ff to any position, it would lose sound. if i didn't change the timing, it would play the audio all the way through. its especially annoying if i want to listen to a certain part again but i have to restart the entire video and get to that single point at 1x.

in wmp, the audio would not have a problem at all... so i think its a vlc codec issue.
