VLC crashes when changing Codec settings

Postby thaphil » 06 Oct 2010 09:47

hi!

i´m new to this forum and i hope you can help me with my problem.

i wanted to reduce the grain (i dont know if it is right maybe its also called noise) in dark scenes (created mkv file of my blu rays with makemkv) - but when i change any settings in the codecs section for x264 vlc crashes when i hit save - this also happens randomly when i change something for ffmpeg.... i also reinstalled osx to avoid programm conflicts but also with only vlc installed the same problem....i do the change in the settings section when no file is loaded in vlc...

can someone please tell me how to enhance the image quality and reduce the grain with these files? i would be very thankful for that ;-)

thanks

phil

ps:my mac is a macbook pro 2,66ghz 4 gb ram so i shouldn't have power problems....

I have the same problem on G5 PPC, you can't change any of the x264 settings at all, it will crash. Older version v1.0.5 might work better for now.
