VLC Sound problem

Hi,
Everything was working fine up until i updated to the new version of VLC. When playing bluray files which has the full surround sound included in the file i cant get the sound to work properly. Using A52 over Spdif it doesnt play the speech at all as if the front speaker was disconnected, i know its not a simple problem such as checking the wires as it was working fine until i updated VLC and all the settings were changed.

Has anyone got any idea why it wouldnt be playing the full surround sound properly? Oh also the connection between my pc and my amp is optical if that matters.
