Frame Skip Bug

Postby EatNoMeat » 21 Sep 2010 23:16

I'm trying to skip through a video frame-by-frame to find clear still images.
I'm using the e key to skip through the frames.
If I press the e key multiple times, some component of VLC Media Player crashes and the video freezes.
I can no longer play the video or skip forward or backward or anything.
After this happens, the only way I can play the video in VLC Media Player again is if I manually stop vlc.exe via Windows Task Manager.

This bug can be reproduced every time.
I tried two different videos and the same thing happened with both.
One video was MP4 format and the other was MPG.

I have the same issue. Seeing no response to your post I am wondering if it's of any interest to anyone here.

My config and problem:

OS: Win-XP Media Center Edition SP3
VLC media player 1.1.4 The Luggage

When using the Frame-by-Frame feature VLC invariably hangs after some number of consecutive frames. Once that happens the play button is inoperative and VLC is unresponsive to loading a new file although it does respond to closing VLC.

The file format doesn't seem to be the problem, avi or mp4. I have to consider it may be a problem with the input file itself but have no way to verify any problem absent a message from VLC.

Does anyone know if this is a bug or some issue with my system?

Is it a problem with an input file and if so how can the file be "repaired"?

If it's a bug has it been reported?

Thanks to anyone for any enlightenment or help on this issue.

Obviously this is a bug of some sort given I am now the third person to raise this particular topic.

As already stated, once the hangup occurs, the program can be closed with the Close button (but not through "Quit" button / CTRL+Q) but is not removed from the system and must be purged through Task Manager or a similar method.

Only video-related features are affected. You still have access to all other windows and shortcuts still work (even video-based shortcuts such as skipping ahead will show visually but no motion will happen in the video).
